The picture book tells the story of the traveler's journey.

Traveling is an immensely delightful and memorable experience, prompting us to eagerly document every detail.The design of the book draws inspiration precisely from one of the most commonly seen, yet most human items encountered during travels - the travel journal.As you flip through the pages of the book, you'll find yourself immersed in a myriad of exotic sights and experiences from the journey: flowers, trees, human interactions, and captivating anecdotes.

The cover design blends Matisse's artistic styles from different periods, thereby creating an impression of crafted collages. It harmoniously resonates with the design concept of a travel journal.

绘本讲述的是艺术家的旅行故事。

旅行的经历让人愉悦难忘,我们总是迫不及待记录一切。书籍设计的灵感正是来自旅行中最常见,也是最富有人情味的物件──旅行手帐。翻开书籍,所有旅行中的异域见闻,包括花草、树木、人情、趣事一一映入眼帘。

封面设计融合了马蒂斯的不同时期的艺术风格,呈现并贴的质感,也呼应手帐的概念。

Subject to the perspective taken by readers, books can be either planar or three-dimensional with different visual perceptions. The act of flipping through a book entails both the elapse of time and the extension of space. Considering the ever-moving pages and thoughts provoked by dramatic plots, books can be likened to living extension of the human body.

The image of this art books exhibition is themed on “books” based on the basic visuals of abstract patterns of opened books. Through a combination with eye patterns, a vision of a book-shaped face is created as an extension of the human body. Over the long evolution process of human civilization, eyes as a physical organ have become a visual symbol valued tens of thousands of years either in the east or west. They even shifted from a cultural representation on a purely biological dimension to a token of thought and consciousness and an inner vision deeply rooted in our mass culture. 

The introduction of eyes provides viewers with more imagination, which is also exactly the glamor of art book exhibition.

书籍,既是平⾯也是⽴体的,不同的观看角度得到不同的视觉感受。书籍的翻阅既有时间的流转,也有空间的延伸;因戏剧性的情节内容,纸张、身体、情绪与思维都调动起来,运动不止。这样书可⽐作是有⽣命的身体,是⼈体的延伸。

本届艺术书展形象以“书”为主体,把书籍打开后形成的抽象图形作为基础视觉。通过与眼睛图形相结合,形成书脸的意向,即⼈体的延伸。眼睛作为一种身体器官,在漫长的文明演化过程中,无论于东方或西方,都成了一个流经万年,具有极度丰富内涵的图腾符号。它既能带来亲近感,又能制造多维情绪。眼睛图形已经从纯生物层面的文化表征逐渐嬗变为思维、意识上的指称,成为一种inner vision,牢牢地扎根在我们的大众文化中。

眼睛的介入,给以观者更多的想象,这也正是艺术书展的魅力。

The starting point of visual design work is to capture the existence of art books in daily life, and books are always full of emotions. A page of textured paper hides words that express ideas; An image that conveys emotion is like a 3D-dimensional object, but seems to be a virtual negative existence. These are our insights into the existence of “Books”.

The image of the book fair focuses on two key points, one is “books”, the other is the “site of the book fair”, that is, the place where the sponsor is located, which is also the source of the visual differentiation of the image of the book fair. The exterior of the building is extracted into a stacked book image, with words surrounding the negative exterior of the “empty” building. The layout of words is arranged according to the external shape of the building, creating a new form. All visual images are then expanded accordingly. 

            

书展形象着重表达两个重点,一是书,二是书展的场地即主办方,也是本届书展形象视觉差异化的源头。嘉德艺术中心位于老北京的心脏,由德国知名建筑师奥雷·舍人设计,立意以当代视野去融合历史与传统。建筑上部通过大尺度与北京现代城市相呼应,下部以像素化的体量,从纹理、颜色和繁杂的规模与建筑周边的胡同肌理相融合。正如老舍先生所言“老北京的美在于建筑之间有‘空儿’,在这些‘空儿’里有树有鸟,每个建筑倒不需要显示自己”,于是在书与建筑之间我们找到了某种契合。

通过对建筑外形体块的提取,形成了书本堆放意象的图形,文字于“空”的建筑负形外部环绕,文字排版依附于造型,形成了新的造型,所有视觉依此展开。

Becoming is a method derived from computer digital manufacturing. Designers or engineers input parameters, rules and objectives into computer software, after which the computing power explores infinite possibilities, thereby generating ideal results.

Based on this model, book design uses students’ graduation works and personal growth as the results, and reversely reveals the parameters and rules of works’ becoming. Data parameters, including but not limited to the campus environment, faculty background, students’ multiple perceptions, knowledge, inspiration, professional skills, etc., are used as elements and structures for design, from which “becoming” reading experiences are created.

The books consist of two volumes: the collection of the whole school and the fascicule of the college. The collection is directly composed of fascicules. The fascicule covers adopt multi-page processing techniques featuring multiplied growth, which put emphasis on the becoming and growing experience. Each cover has two pages in the middle that can be torn off and used as bookmarks. Readers can record their reading state on the bookmark, thereby actively engaging themselves in becoming events, and finally finalizing the book.

生成是源自计算机数字制造条件下的方法和途径,设计师或者工程师将参数、规则和目标输入到计算机软件中,让运算力来探索无穷可能,进而产出理想的目标结果。

书籍设计基于这一模型,将同学们毕业作品及个人成长作为结果,反向梳理了作品生成的参数与规则。包括不限于校园环境、师资背景以及同学们差异化的感知、智识、灵感、专业技艺等数据参数,以此作为设计的元素与结构,来营造“生成性”的阅读体验。

书籍包括全校合集与学院分册两部分,合集由分册直接合订而成。分册书籍封面采用成倍数生长的多页面处理手法,强化生成生长体验。每个封面中间有两页可撕下,变作为书写书签。用书签记录自己当下的阅读状态,希望阅读者能主动参与生成事件,最终完成书籍成品状态。
